Large-scale data migration project | Hands-on SQL & ETL delivery
We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Specialist to join a major data migration program involving the movement of large volumes of data from a legacy MS SQL Server 2016 source system into multiple target systems.
This is a hands-on role, working closely with the asset and application support teams to transform, validate, reconcile, and migrate data while ensuring accuracy, quality, and traceability throughout the migration lifecycle.
The Project
- Large-scale data migration program with multiple downstream target systems
- Source system: Microsoft SQL Server 2016
- Staging environment: MS SQL Server
- Strong focus on data transformation, reconciliation, and data quality management
- Work closely with the asset team supporting the existing source system to understand data structures and business rules.
- Design and build data transformation logic using SQL, stored procedures, and staging tables.
- Develop and maintain stored procedures and scripts to manage data extraction, transformation, and export to target systems.
- Perform data reconciliation and validation to ensure completeness and accuracy of migrated data.
- Manage receipt, ingestion, and processing of response files from target systems.
- Support ongoing data quality checks, issue resolution, and process improvements throughout the migration.
- Contribute to documentation, data mappings, and migration run-books.
- Strong experience with SQL Server(T-SQL development, stored procedures, performance tuning).
- Proven experience delivering data migration projects, ideally involving large or complex datasets.
- Solid understanding of ETL concepts and data transformation workflows.
- Experience working with staging databases and reconciliation processes.
- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to data quality and validation.
- Experience with SSIS.
- Scripting experience using Python.
- Exposure to multi-target migration programs or phased data cutovers.
- Melbourne-based contract role.
- $500 per day including super.
