Senior Systems Engineer – Kubernetes | Infrastructure | DevOps
Location: Melbourne (Hybrid – 2 days onsite/week)
Full-time | Fixed Term until 31 Dec 2026 (with potential for permanency)
Salary: $154K package – open to negotiation for the right candidate
We're on the hunt for a true
Kubernetes expert – someone who deeply understands the internals, not just someone who manages it through high-level tooling.
This is a rare opportunity to design and build a greenfield, on-prem Kubernetes environment
from the ground up. If vanilla Kubernetes excites you more than any fancy abstraction layer, this might be your dream role.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Architecting, deploying, and managing production-grade vanilla Kubernetes clusters on-premises.
- Working hands-on with Kubernetes networking, including CNI plugins, ingress controllers, and service meshes.
- Implementing Kubernetes-native security controls like RBAC, Pod Security Policies, and network policies.
- Managing high-performance storage and virtualization platforms tailored to intensive research and enterprise workloads.
- Using Terraform, Ansible, and other Infrastructure as Code tools for consistent, automated infrastructure delivery.
- Designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment and updates.
- Collaborating across technical and non-technical teams to translate complex needs into robust infrastructure solutions.
- Upholding rigorous technical, operational, and security standards across the stack.
- You’ve run on-prem, vanilla Kubernetes and know the internals intimately.This includes strong knowledge (not just the tools that manage it)
- You’re not dependent on managed services or dashboards – you thrive in a terminal.
- You understand the underlying systems: networking, compute, storage, and how they all tie into K8s.
- You’re experienced in building secure, scalable environments from scratch – not just maintaining what others built.
- Strong background in infrastructure automation (Terraform/Ansible), Git, and CI/CD practices.
- You can work independently, but you collaborate well across teams and communicate with clarity.
