Role Overview
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This role is focused on infrastructure and platform capability, not on building product APIs. You'll design and write Infrastructure as Code, build the templates and blueprints that other developers rely on, and help evolve how the wider engineering organisation builds, tests, and ships software.
This role suits someone who genuinely enjoys "just" doing infrastructure as code and who wants to make life better for the developers who use what you build.
While this role has a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code and Azure platform engineering, we're specifically looking for an experienced Senior C# engineer who enjoys applying software engineering practices to cloud infrastructure and platform development.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure as Code & Platform Capability
- Write, maintain, and improve Infrastructure as Code across Azure.
- Build and maintain reusable Bicep templates and modules that other developers can consume directly.
- Write unit tests for infrastructure code, treating it with the same rigour as application code.
- Design everything with a dev-centric mindset - the goal is to make it easy and intuitive for other engineers to self-serve infrastructure, not just to make it work.
- Produce blueprints and reference architectures, supported by clear diagrams, that development teams can pick up and use with minimal guidance.
- Design, build, and maintain platform tooling and automation using C#.
- Apply current Microsoft Landing Zone patterns and practices.
- Design and build with Azure-native services including Event Grid, Front Door, Azure Functions, and Logic Apps.
- Default to serverless architectures wherever practical, particularly for lower-traffic workloads, to reduce cost and operational overhead.
- Support and help drive the GitHub migration, including following it through to completion across affected teams.
- Contribute to the CI/CD platform and identify practical ways to accelerate software delivery.
- Write clear technical designs, including Key Design Decisions (KDDs) and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and maintain good record-keeping practices.
- Explore and apply AI tooling to improve engineering and delivery workflows.
- Participate in Three Amigos sessions as part of the team's ways of working.
- Review pull requests thoughtfully and provide constructive, timely feedback.
- Communicate clearly with both engineers and stakeholders, particularly when explaining infrastructure and platform decisions.
- Senior-level experience in cloud application development is preferred. Candidates who demonstrate an interest in platform engineering and a willingness to develop platform-focused expertise will be highly valued.
- Strong hands-on Senior level experience with .NET on Azure and/or AWS
- Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling: Bicep, Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CDK.
- Familiarity with current Microsoft Landing Zone architecture and patterns is preferred.
- Experience with serverless services such as Event Grid, Front Door, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, or equivalent AWS services.
- Comfortable writing unit tests for infrastructure and platform code.
- A genuine platform mindset - motivated by enabling other developers rather than shipping product features directly.
- Experience with, or strong interest in, GitHub-based CI/CD and developer workflow tooling.
