Our client, a financial services organisation undergoing a large-scale technology transformation is looking for a senior Java engineer to design and build an API layer between its legacy core system and new downstream platforms. This is a greenfield-within-brownfield engagement with genuine architectural influence.
What you'll do
- Design and build RESTful APIs using Java Spring Boot 3 as the integration layer between legacy and new systems
- Implement secure, token-based authentication using OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect
- Integrate with a custom identity management solution
- Architect clean integration patterns so new systems can consume well-structured data without tight coupling to legacy internals
- Support cloud migration activity and contribute to architectural decisions across AWS or Azure environments
- Coach and mentor engineers, and communicate technical context clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Experience and qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering solutions across cloud and enterprise platforms
- 5+ years working within large organisations as part of an agile delivery team
- Strong analytical and fault-finding skills across a range of technical domains
- Strong production experience with Java Spring Boot (v3 preferred)
- Solid understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and token-based authentication
- Experience designing and documenting APIs to the OpenAPI / Swagger standard
- Proven track record integrating modern platforms with legacy or monolithic systems
- Good understanding of microservices and API architecture patterns
- Working knowledge of cloud services — AWS or Azure
