A large public sector organisation in Brisbane is growing its digital engineering capability and needs a Principal Java Engineer to take technical ownership of the shared identity and microservice platforms behind its digital services. This is a hands-on principal role. You will extend and develop Keycloak or Red Hat SSO, build reactive Java microservices and RESTful APIs, and work with product leadership on where the platforms go next. The environment demands high availability and strong security assurance, so engineering discipline matters as much as technical depth.
The role
- Shape the direction of product development, enhancements and support for shared identity and microservice platforms, alongside the Product Manager and Directors
- Extend and develop identity capability in Keycloak or Red Hat SSO
- Design and build Java/JEE reactive microservices and RESTful APIs
- Keep the platforms available and reliable, including on call and after hours support as required
- Make sure operations, processes and practices meet relevant legislative and government standards
- High level expertise extending or developing in Keycloak or Red Hat SSO, ideally with other (especially open source) Identity Management platforms
- Knowledge of identity federation and protocols: OpenID Connect, OAuth, SAML and Verifiable Credentials
- High level expertise in Java/JEE, reactive microservices and RESTful APIs
- Experience supporting platforms at high availability in high security assurance environments, including identity trust frameworks
- Experience with UI libraries and design systems (HTML5, CSS frameworks, responsive design), and working in an agile and DevSecOps environment
Culture
- Collaborative team with a product-centric mindset
- Constant iteration and improvement in how products and services are delivered
- Agile and DevSecOps ways of working
- Respectful, inclusive workplace that values diversity
- Regular collaboration with product and director level stakeholders
