Are you a hands-on Network Technician who enjoys working in the field, solving complex technical challenges, and delivering critical network infrastructure? We're partnering with a leading Australian organisation that operates one of the country's most advanced national network environments, supporting research, education, and innovation across Australia.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled technical operations team where you'll play a key role in deploying, maintaining and supporting a large-scale fibre and IP network.
About the Role
As a Network Field Technician, you'll be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance and support of network infrastructure across customer and data centre environments. This is a predominantly field-based position with regular travel throughout Australia, working on new deployments, upgrades, fault restoration and network expansion projects.
You'll work independently while collaborating with experienced engineering teams to deliver high-quality network services across mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission and upgrade network infrastructure and telecommunications equipment.
- Perform fibre optic testing using OTDRs, power meters and associated test equipment.
- Configure and provision network services.
- Execute testing and commissioning plans.
- Lead and perform service migrations, including after-hours maintenance activities.
- Diagnose and restore network faults across fibre and IP environments.
- Work closely with engineering teams and third-party providers to resolve incidents.
- Produce accurate technical documentation and service handover reports.
- Assist with network audits, service provisioning and ongoing operational improvements.
- Participate in an on-call roster and planned maintenance windows.
You'll be a self-motivated technician who enjoys working autonomously, travelling to customer sites and solving technical problems in the field.
You'll ideally have:
- 2-5 years' experience as a Network or Telecommunications Technician.
- Experience installing and supporting telecommunications or enterprise network infrastructure.
- Experience working within data centre or colocation environments.
- Strong knowledge of fibre optic technologies, including OTDR testing and power measurements.
- Experience with network commissioning, service provisioning and fault diagnostics.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and documentation abilities.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
- Australian Citizenship (essential).
- Experience with DWDM or optical transmission technologies.
- Telecommunications, Engineering or related technical qualifications.
