About the opportunity
This is a chance to join the engineering team at one of Australia's largest and best-known consumer tech businesses, at a point where the team is genuinely growing and investing in its people. You'd be working within a product technology team building the systems behind a large, high-traffic platform used by millions of Australians every day. There is a good mix of Greenfield projects, BAU and working with AI daily!
The hybrid setup here isn't just "come in when you feel like it" — Monday and Friday are protected at-home days, built into how the whole team works, so you can actually plan your week around it. The other three days can be flexible as well. To be considered, you have to be Melbourne based.
The business has been recognised by WORK180 for its approach to workplace equity and flexibility. https://work180.com/en-au
** We are building a squad from scratch, we're looking for multiple engineers across junior, mid to senior level - please apply to this advert to be considered for these roles **
The role
You'll design and build backend services that genuinely matter to the business — not just maintain what's there, but help shape how it evolves. Day to day that looks like:
- Designing, building and evolving scalable backend services and platforms
- Writing software that's built to last — maintainable, reliable, and performant
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps practices
- Working through technical design problems alongside more senior engineers (great exposure if you're looking to grow)
- Helping the wider team spot and manage technical debt and system risk
- 3+ years experience with Java and Spring Boot
- A solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architecture
- Experience with messaging/streaming tools like Kafka or similar
- Working knowledge of AWS
- Some exposure to CI/CD and tooling such as Docker, Jenkins or Ansible
Tech and Data sit at the centre of this business — together they make up more than half the company's headcount, so engineering isn't an afterthought here, it's core to how the place runs.
You'll get proper onboarding and ongoing support as you settle in, not just a laptop and a Slack invite.
