The Organisation A large NSW Government agency is investing in a project delivery team building purpose-built applications that support critical frontline operations. This is a well-resourced environment, with an established team of permanent staff and contractors already in place, so you won't be starting from scratch or working in isolation.
The Engagement Initial 6-month contract, with the broader program of work estimated at around 2 years subject to ongoing funding approval. You'll be working across two applications: one being built from the ground up, involving forms development and integration with core back-end systems, and one already underway, where you'll extend an existing framework alongside another developer. This sits within a dedicated project delivery function, separate from day-to-day support work.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing and extending Java applications end-to-end, from a brand-new build through to feature extension of an existing platform
- Building front-end components in Angular
- Integrating with back-end systems and messaging/integration layers
- Working closely with internal architecture and testing teams
- Contributing to both greenfield and established codebases within the same team
What You'll Bring
Essential:
- Strong core Java experience (Java 8)
- Spring framework
- Angular front-end development experience
- Comfortable working across a back-end-heavy full stack split
- Node.js
- MuleSoft
- IBM MQ
- Jenkins
- Experience integrating with legacy or mainframe systems
Why Consider This Role This is a chance to work across both greenfield and established platforms in the same engagement, with genuine support from an existing team rather than being dropped in solo. The work sits within a meaningful public-sector delivery program, and there's a credible path to a much longer engagement if funding for the broader program is confirmed.
