Development Lead | Insurance | Sydney | $160k - $170k + super

A well-established Australian insurance underwriting agency is looking for a Development Lead to take ownership of their application architecture and lead their development team through a significant legacy modernisation program.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll be the SME driving architecture decisions, setting development standards and contributing directly to the codebase.

What you'll be doing
  • Owning application architecture across core systems, APIs and data platform
  • Leading the migration from legacy systems to modern .NET architecture
  • Setting and enforcing development guidelines and API/security standards
  • Reviewing developer output and maintaining quality standards
  • Working closely with the Product Owner and UX Lead on delivery
  • Contributing directly to the codebase on a roughly 50/50 basis with leadership responsibilities
What you'll need
  • Proven experience with Microsoft .NET and C#
  • Demonstrated experience migrating legacy, undocumented systems
  • Full-stack capability, client-side experience in Blazor, Angular or React
  • Strong SQL Server and API development background
  • Experience working in financial services or a regulated industry
  • Agile delivery experience
  • The patience and stability to work through complex, undocumented codebases
Desirable
  • Blazor WebAssembly experience
  • Azure infrastructure exposure
  • Insurance industry background

If you're the type of engineer who finds an undocumented legacy system more interesting than intimidating, we'd like to hear from you.
