We are seeking a highly skilled Data Observability Engineer
to provide advanced technical expertise in the design, development, and implementation of data observability and analytics systems.
This 12-month contract offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge Defence technology initiatives, building and maintaining advanced monitoring, analytics, and automation tooling that supports digital integration testing, evaluation, and experimentation across networked systems.
You’ll lead the development of observability frameworks, ensure effective data capture and analysis across systems, and contribute to integration and DevSecOps environments that strengthen our digital integration capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and implement data observability and analytics tooling initiatives.
- Develop and maintain observability practices and procedures for test, evaluation, and experimentation.
- Provide analysis and technical advice on data collection, root cause analysis, and system optimisation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to deploy and maintain experimental systems and support future architecture.
- Integrate observability into DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Deliver detailed technical reports, post-activity assessments, and subject-matter guidance on emerging technologies.
- Extensive experience in data observability and analytics.
- Strong Linux (Red Hat) administration skills.
- Proven experience with DevSecOps / CI-CD pipelines (GitLab).
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, PowerShell, Java, C, and C++.
- Experience with API development, integration, and virtualisation (KVM/VMware).
- Prior experience working on Defence or Government projects (active NV1/NV2 clearance).
- Certifications in Data Engineering or Observability tools(e.g. Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus).
- Tertiary qualifications in Data Engineering, Analytics, or Information Technology.
- Defence Test & Evaluation experience.
- Familiarity with Agile and systems engineering practices.
