About the opportunity
A large NSW Government agency is investing heavily in its data and analytics capability, standing up on-premises data warehouses alongside cloud-based data lakes and analytics platforms. Two Senior Data Engineers are needed to help build this out from the ground up, working within a dedicated data engineering team as part of a broader enterprise data strategy. This is hands-on delivery work with real scale and real stakes: the data these platforms carry supports operational decision-making around the clock.
The role
- Design and build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines across complex, large-scale operational environments
- Establish and maintain core data engineering capability: storage, cataloguing, lineage, integration, orchestration, automation, and version control
- Configure and optimise both on-premises and cloud-based data platforms
- Implement role-based access controls and data governance rules across environments
- Work closely with data governance, data science, and BI teams to keep pipelines reliable end to end
What you'll bring
- 5+ years building scalable ETL/ELT pipelines in complex operational environments
- Deep, hands-on experience across the full data engineering lifecycle, not just one part of the stack
- Extensive SQL and Python
- Extensive version control experience (GitHub, BitBucket, or similar)
- Experience configuring both on-premises and cloud-based data environments

What's on offer
- $900 - $925 per day + GST
- Contract through to 30 June 2027, with strong potential for extension
- Hybrid working, minimum three days a week onsite in Sydney

This role requires Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency, or a current NZ passport, and successful completion of a National Police Check and Baseline National Security Clearance.
