Interview Tools & Tips

Here we have a great range of resume tips and useful information to make landing and settling into new technology roles easier!

How to write a resume

One of the best pieces of resume advice we can offer is this: it’s time to embrace new technologies and remember that the days of putting together your own resume have passed. Today, there are a number of online tools that allow for writing a resume that is clean, professional – and most importantly, stands out – in no time at all.

Rather than provide links to the various sites (there are many out there changing everyday) we would simply suggest that you search for a resume format or builder and select the one that suits you.

For the best example of a good resume, remember to include the following points:

  • Structure - list your positions in reverse order with your most recent first. Generally, keep the least important details at the back. If you were the state champion in chess or football it is worth stating, but not at the front of your resume!
  • Relevance - this can be a key element in presenting that killer tech resume. Whenever possible, tailor your resume to the job you are applying for, that’s where the resume builders out there can really help.
  • Achievement - make it about you. Try to detail your achievements and results rather than list your previous job description.

Preparing for an interview

You have invested time and effort in getting to this stage. Now is the time for some next-level interview preparation to increase your chances of success in securing future tech jobs.

To help you stand out and find success, here are some of our favourite interview tips:

  • Research the company - ensure you understand as much as possible about the company. Have a couple of questions ready to ask the interviewer.
  • Research the interviewer - Try to find out about the person interviewing you. Ask your consultant and check tools such as LinkedIn.
  • Present well – dressing for an interview means being sure you are well presented. This may be wearing a suit or simply dressing appropriately for your industry. Check with your consultant what the dress code is. Remember, it’s always better to be a little overdressed for an interview if you are unsure.
  • Be positive - go into your interview with a positive can-do attitude and ask for the job.

As always, the internet can provide a wealth of current information and research on what typically works, along with some common interview questions. Your consultant will also be able to provide you with additional information.
